Cocopeat manufacturers

Cocopeat is known as an alternative growing medium besides conventional soil. This material is a non-fibrous, porous, lightweight, corky material that holds the coir fiber in coconut husk together. Cocopeat is the by-product of the coconut fiber extraction process. It can be used in many parts of gardening or horticulture, agriculture, animal husbandry, and other industries. Cocopeat material is famous as a growing medium that is more considered environmentally friendly than peat moss because it is a waste product that can be renewed quickly. Unlike peat moss that acidic, cocopeat has a neutral pH level. Most garden vegetables and flowers grow healthier in neutral to slightly wet conditions.

There are so many cocopeat manufacturers nowadays, especially in a coastal country like Indonesia. This is because coconut is the main ingredient of cocopeat was many plants in the country with long coastal area. Cocopeat is a by-product of processing coconut, which was not valuable, but after the export market opened. Now cocopeat has become a high-value item on the global market. Moreover, because of its good quality of cocopeat, several neighboring countries are interested in buying cocopeat from Indonesia. In coconut husks’ fiber family product, cocopeat manufacturers need to past eight stage process with strict quality checking before they are shipped to customers. After it, process cocopeat will be divided into some products.

Cocopeat manufacturers process

  • First step of cocopeat process is coconut husk processing
This process will take coconut husk that coconut husks are processed at our coconut fiber mills to extract coir fiber, leaving behind the by-product. The porous material will bind the coconut fiber in the husk. The coco coir or the cocopeat, the primary raw material for the coco coir based growing medium.
  • Second, washing of raw cocopeat
Cocopeat coir is washed with fresh water to lower electrical conductivity, which is a measure of salt content, so the plant’s root can absorb water efficiently when you used this product. The salt of cocopeat coir is because the coconut usually plants in the seashore, absorbing the salt and containing inside the coconut.
  • Third step drying of washed cocopeat
After washed cocopeat coir, get sun-dried in a concrete open field, or it can be oven to reduce the moisture content to the correct value to achieve the required compaction.
  • Fourth step: Sorting
The dried cocopeat coir then needs to be sorted based on their electrical conductivity and moisture level. So it will good for growing medium use in advance.
  • Fifth step is sifting and sieving cocopeat coir
Sorted cocopeat coir is sifted and sieved to remove the fine dust particles and extract the right sized grains per the planting medium specification.
  • Sixth step mixing of cocopeat, coco chips, and coco coir
As per the substrate specification, sifted cocopeat coir with coco chips and coco coir mechanically obtain a homogenous mixture.
  • Seventh step compaction cocopeat
The substrate mixture the compacted in hydraulic presses to the required size.
  • Eighth or last pack and dispatch the cocopeat
Individual cocopeat substrates are packed as per the specification, and they can be sealed in grow bags or shrink-wrapped with labels and packed in cartons. All cocopeat is ready to move to stock go down for pelletizing and shipment to the market.
